STATEMENT

In an age where images proliferate, where any moment, remarkable or mundane, can be captured, replicated, and transmitted with a few clicks of a button, these paintings are quiet gestures of defiance. They are decidedly handmade, composed over time, deliberately considered, amended and revised. Rather than challenge traditional notions of painting, they accept the limitations of the medium. Drawing inspiration from a variety of visual sources historic and current, they recognize to the past while addressing the contemporary dialogue of abstract painting. They are process-based, employing both strategy and intuition. Like jazz, they balance between imposed structure and inspired spontaneity. The veiled layers of the compositions and their surface textures reveal traces of past decisions, mistakes, and corrections, recording the history of their creation. They are images without an agenda, neither provoking consumptive desires, nor promoting a packaged brand or persona. Instead, they invite the viewer to slow down, to look, and to think.
